Dog Agility Class Descriptions:
All dog training classes meet once a week and are 50 minutes long. The classes below are listed in alphabetical order.
Agility Skills 101 (Level 1 - Fundamental)
Agility Drills (Level 2 - Fundamental)
Agility for Fun! (Level 2 - Fundamental)
Agility Handing Foundation (Level 2 - Fundamental)
Agility Handling Foundation classes are for dogs that are self-assured in agility and are motivated to perform obstacles. Your dog does not need to know a contact performance, but must be confident on all equipment at full height, and know at least four straight weave poles. We will be teaching correct obstacle execution, as well as foundation training on the flat. You will begin to learn handling skills, and how to stay connected with your dog for well-timed cues.
Agility Handling Skills on Course (Level 3 - Skilled)
In the Agility Handling Skills on Course Class you will learn how to use sequences and courses to build your handling and training skills on your way into the ring. Sets varying in length from five obstacles to fifteen obstacles to a full course will be used to tighten turns, fine tune your handling, and prepare you for the ring.
Competitive Handling Skills (Level 4 - Expert)
This agility class is available to students who have completed the majority of courses listed below at Club-Doggie or similar courses taught at another facility. This class is also for dogs and handlers who are already competing in agility. You will learn skills to make your runs fast and tight on difficult courses. This is a fun and intense class to make you and your dog the best possible team!
Contact Skills 101 - Value Building & Entries (Level 2 - Fundamental)
For dogs (and handlers) new to the sport of agility, this class will help build value for your contacts prior to beginning the training of a 2on2off, running, or other contact performance. This class will also teach correct, safe entries onto the contacts by training the dogs to enter all contact boards straight.
Desensitization (Level 3 - Skilled)
In this class, dogs learn to focus on running agility and not let the environment distract them. We will be working through all types of distractions from noise to motion and more. Desensitization is a fun class that can be very challenging yet incredibly rewarding as the dogs become more confident and less distracted. This class is highly recommended for all dogs.
Equipment Introduction (Level 1/2 - Basic/Fundamental)
Equipment Introduction classes are for starting dogs, young dogs, or dogs lacking motivation in the sport of agility. Training is geared toward building drive and enthusiasm. You will learn what makes your dog want to do agility, how to introduce equipment to your dog with speed, and most important, building confidence and drive working as a team. This class will not introduce your dog to the weave poles.
Foundation Flatwork (Level 1 - Basic)
This workshop is a must for building teamwork on course! You will learn games that will transfer to running a proficient course, how to balance handler focus with obstacle focus, and how to train agility cues from start to finish. We work very little with equipment, so your dog does not need to be proficient on the obstacles. This workshop is recommended for beginning dogs and dogs that are missing a solid foundation in agility.
Jumping 101 (Level 2 - Fundamental)
For dogs (and handlers) new to the sport of agility, this class will build value for jumps. Jumps make up approximately 60-90% of an agility course, and therefore it is important that a dog enjoys taking jumps. This class will help build that excitement, as well as jumping independence, and how to train an off-set line.
Jumping Skills 202 (Level 2 - Fundamental)
This class will continue to build value for jumps, create more jump independence, increase speed, and overall jumping skills. The class will use off-set lines, circles, and other grid work to build on the foundation jumping skills the dog already has.
Running Contacts & Entries (Level 3 - Skilled)
Running contacts takes a lot of repetition and the capability of seeing the contact performance at top speed. In this workshop we cover how to get speed across the plank, how to train yourself to see the dog hit the contact, what to reward, and how to get the desired performance consistently. In addition to the end behavior, we will be training independent contact entries!
Weaves & Teeters 101 (Level 2 - Fundamental)
Weaving & Teeters 101 classes are for dogs that have not learned to weave, or are just starting to learn to weave. At Club-Doggie, we train weave poles using Susan Garrett's 2x2 weave training method. The Teeter 101 segment of this class conditions the dog to be fearless of the sound and motion, so the dog can ultimately execute the teeter with confidence and speed.
Weaves & Teeters 202 (Level 2 - Fundamental)
This class will continue to build value for weaves and teeters, create more independence, increase speed, and overall skills.
